Kidney Problems

Types of Kidney Problems

People with kidney problems are often totally unaware of them until a sudden symptom or blood test creates awareness.  Kidney problems may occur at any age and fall into two main categories

  • Acute - which is a current flair up and
  • Chronic - which simply means long term.

Acute Kidney Problems

are generally referred to as ACUTE Pyelonephritis.  This usually develops quickly and is mostly one sided.  It is more common amongst women and may cause high temperature or fever, blood in the urine, nausea, diarrhoea and most notably one sided pain in the back or flank.

Chronic Kidney Problems

or Chronic Kidney Disease, is referred to as CKD. It generally affects mature adults and may progress for years without any obvious signs or symptoms.  CKD is judged on the speed with which your kidneys can filter your blood.

As your kidney degeneration  advances, the speed with which they can filter your blood drops.  A 'stage' of CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) may be calculated from these values.  Please see The 5 Stages of CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) towards the bottom of this page.

Tests for Kidney Problems

Your doctor will be able to check your creatinine level, and you may indeed already have this recoded in past blood work.  From this it is possible to work out your kidney filtration rate to determine whether you are suffering from CKD.

What Causes Kidney Problems?

Kidney problems may be caused by urinary tract infections (UTIs).  They may occur due to physical trauma or be contributed to by diet.  Kidney stones are a major cause of kidney pain.  Dr Hulda Clark notes that tea consumption may be a major contributor because it is extremely high in oxalates - one of the substances that makes up many kidney stones.

Remedies for Kidney Problems

Acute kidney problems may be due to a bacterial infection which your doctor would most probably address with antibiotics.
Bacterial infections may respond well to colloidal silver and or olive leaf extract - Please see our Kidney Treatments page.
