Betaine HCL 425mg Description

Heartburn, Stomach Acid and Betaine HCL - Hydrochloric Acid
Heartburn is one of the most misrepresented health complaints we come across.  The truth is that while the advertising industry is forcing antacids down your throat, the probability is that you are suffering from insufficient stomach acid and not too much!

Too Little or Too Much Hydrochloric Acid -
The Symptoms Are The Same

We have all bee brain washed into thinking that stomach and intestinal problems including heartburn, indigestion, gas, and reflux are caused by overproduction of stomach acid (Hydrochloric Acid).  Antacids are the knee-jerk reaction of millions of heartburn sufferers.  And they often provide instant relief!  But for many this will be at the cost of their long term health.  Stomach acid is there for a reason, and blocking it can be the beginning of a downward spiral of your health.

By taking Betaine HCL supplements your stomach acidity will increase which may allow  better, more complete digestion for the majority of sufferers.  This in turn will allow your body to resolve the distressing symptoms you had previously put down to excess stomach acidity.

Betain HCL  and Candida
Candida overgrowth is a hugely common problem in the developed world.  Fungal species and microbes of all sorts are constantly consumed with our food.  By keeping the gastric juices in the stomach sufficiently acid, most of the microbes are killed before reaching the intestine where they may cause bloating, gas, and any number of digestive complaints.

Functions Of Stomach Hydrochloric Acid
Hydrochloric acid serves many purposes, including:
  • Hydrochloric Acid (HCL) is the primary digestive juice responsible for breaking down proteins to prepare them for assimilation in the small intestine.
  • HCL provides a sterilising barrier, killing many potentially harmful micro-organisms in our foods before they reach the rest of the digestive tract.
  • The production of stomach acid uses up considerable amounts of hydrogen ions, the acid forming  thereby assisting in the elimination of excessive tissue acidity.

Underproduction Of Stomach Acid (Hydrochloric Acid) Is Very Common
It is anticipated that over half of the population (of industrialised countries) over the age of fifty is consistently under-producing hydrochloric acid. A demineralized diet greatly exacerbates this problem, which may be further worsened by low salt intake.

Salt Consumption & HCL/Stomach Acid Production
Your body needs salt and cannot function adequately without it!
For Decades we have been bombarded with false information regarding its involvement in cardiovascular (heart and circulatory) disease.  The fact is that if you now look at the top cardiology departments information, you will find the advice that you are at a higher risk of these diseases with a LOW salt intake.

Low salt diets can make it very difficult if not impossible for stomach to produce adequate amounts of hydrochloric acid.

For most of us salt is not a problem.  It is a need.  The problem is REFINED salt, which should be avoided.  Instead, we recommend Celtic Sea Salt, or an equally unadulterated, greyish colour salt with all its minerals intact.

For a small group of hypertensive individuals (about 20% who suffer from kidney related hypertension),  over-consumption of salt may be detrimental.  These are the exception, not the rule and represent a tiny fraction of the population.  If you have kidney related hypertension do not increase salt intake.

Directions For Use of Betaine HCL (For people of age 12 or over)
To find out whether Betaine HCL will help you, we suggest you introduce it as follows:
  • Always take Betaine HCL with the first mouthfuls of the meal.
  • Start with one capsule at the beginning of the largest meal of the day.  Notice if it helps or worsens your condition.
  • If it worsens, discontinue.  You may be producing excess HCL , have damaged stomach lining or have an ulcer. (Mastica may help).  Seek professional advice.
  • If you are no better or worse, increase to 2 capsules and assess for improvement.
  • If one capsule makes you feel well, repeat at this level with each meal.
  • Find the level at which you are best supported by the Betaine HCL and use this as your baseline.
Please note that you need less Hydrochloric Acid to digest meals with little or now protein.  Modify your HCL supplementation accordingly.
