Without sufficient B2, several of the other B vitamins cannot perform their functions and many body processes would simply stop.  B2 is used to create enzymes necessary for cell reproduction and fuel.

Folate (a naturally occurring form of folic acid) and pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) are transformed by riboflavin (B2) into the neurotransmitters crucial for thinking and memory. Riboflavin has been found to be high in people who perform well in memory tests.

Riboflavin is water-soluble and must be replaced daily, because although a little is stored in the Kidneys and Liver, the majority is excreted through urination, and sweating.

Oral contraceptives and regular consumption of alcohol decrease the amount of riboflavin your body is able to absorb. Also, the elderly, diabetics, and the lactose intolerant individuals may consume less riboflavin and absorbe less of what they consume.
