Quick Overview

Zinc is an essential trace mineral which contributes to:

  • DNA and protein synthesis
  • acid-base metabolism
  • carbohydrate metabolism
  • cognitive function
  • fertility and reproduction
  • macronutrient metabolism
  • fatty acid metabolism
  • vitamin A metabolism
  • maintenance of normal bones

100 mg Zinc gluconate, rice flour, vegetable cellulose capsule

Zinc is an essential mineral for human health and is involved in the biological functions listed above.  No mineral can be manufactured by the body so these must be consumed in the diet.

There are many types of zinc salt, but Zinc gluconate is more soluble than other zinc salts, and friendlier to the stomach. Zinc gluconate is known for its easy absorption and quick assimilation into the body.

DNA synthesis is the creation of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecules. These molecules are created by all living cells through the process of DNA replication.  The DNA strands of an existing cell are split and duplicated.  The newly created strands are then joined with their template strands to create new DNA.  Obviously the accuracy of this critical biological process is paramount and Zinc contributes to its proper function.

The acid base metabolism is the management of acidity and alkalinity of the body fluids and tissues.  It is primarily regulated by three systems.  The buffer system, the respiratory system and the urinary system.  pH balance must be kept within very tight parameters for human health.  Zinc is recognised by the European regulators, to be involved in normal acid base metabolism.

Carbohydrate metabolism refers to the process your body goes through to break down carbohydrates into energy.  This too is a vital metabolic process the normal function of which is contributed to by zinc.

Cognitive functions, otherwise referred to as mental functions, are defined as different ways of perceiving and judging the world. They are defined as "thinking", "feeling", "sensing" and "intuition".  According to Carl Jung, these functions are intimately involved in determining personality types.  Zinc is recognised as contributing to normal cognitive function.

Fertility and reproduction are extremely complex functions involving vast numbers of nutrients and biochemical interactions.  Zinc contributes to normal fertility and reproduction.

Contributing to normal macro-nutrient, fatty acid and vitamin A metabolism, simply means that these nutrients cannot be properly used and integrated into the body without the inclusion of the required amount of zinc.

A fully functional essential fatty acid metabolism is necessary to heal burns (including sunburn) wounds, hemorrhoids, eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, and acne.

Normal bone maintenance is also contributed to by zinc.  Bones are constantly being broken down and rebuilt by the body and this anabolic and catabolic balance is crucial to the maintenance of healthy bone matrix.

We would also encourage you to study zinc research.
There are many areas of investigation which have not yet been proven to the satisfaction of European regulators, but which may be investigated none the less.

These include:

  • the possible effects of zinc defficiency on the thymus gland, T-cell production and the immune system
  • Zinc's roll (or lack of it) in skin, nail and hair health
  • Research into sore throats, colds and flu
  • Zinc's relationship with autoimmune disease
  • Zinc's roll (or lack of it) in tinnitus and macular degeneration

Zinc is concentrated by the body in the inner ear, eye (retina), thymus and prostate gland.

Zinc gluconate may interfere with the absorption of antibiotics.  Always consult your Doctor should you be prescribed these while taking zinc gluconate.

Over consumption of zinc may lead to the symptoms of zinc poisoning.  These include fever, vomiting, stomach cramps, diarrhoea, and nausea.

Severe zinc poisoning can lead to low blood pressure, jaundice, seizures, joint pain and a metallic taste in the mouth. Taking substantially more than 100mg daily for a long period of time is not recommended.

Take as directed.
